Media 101 For Therapists

Presented by: Linda Nusbaum, MFT and Suzanna Spurgeor

Linda Nusbaum is a dynamic woman who   has combined two careers into one:
award-winning news broadcaster and   licensed therapist. These two modalities have   given her a unique understanding of the   stresses of the corporate and entertainment worlds. Combine that with her empathic, insightful, and rational approach as a therapist and you have a qualified professional with the tools to help you transform.
In addition to her two Emmy awards in broadcasting, her humanitarian documentaries have been honored and reproduced for teaching others. A frequent contributor to trade and business publications, a speaker and workshop presenter at national conferences, Linda also serves on the board for her local chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and is an active Red Cross volunteer.

Suzanne Spurgeon is the founder of Women Media Pros, a full-service media consulting firm based in Beverly Hills. She is a former CNN Vice President and Los Angeles Bureau Chief. During her 26 year broadcast journalism career, Suzanne worked in front of and behind the camera. She is an Emmy award-winning journalist. Her work also garnered a cable Ace award.

Today she leads a team of female journalists providing media interview training, public relations, video services, crisis communications and other media services. Suzanne also teams with MFT Linda Nusbaum, a former CNN reporter, providing media relations workshops and on-camera coaching for therapists who are so often called upon by the media to share their expertise on-air.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn how to share your expertise on TV like others in your field? We will demystify the business for you and give you some tips to break in.
  • Learn how to express yourself in the most effective manner for broadcast ("sound bite speak").  You'll understand what producers are looking for and how to provide it.

Therapists are in great need to help broaden news stories.  Producers are looking for TV-savvy-go-to-spokespeople to help viewers understand the complexities of our world today.  There is often a psychological aspect that therapists are qualified to explain.  Lean how to use what you know and get exposure.

2 CEU's and Continental Breakfast are included in meeting cost.
