DANCING THE TRANSFERENCE: UNDERSTANDING & APPLYING A CORE PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC CONCEPT TO ACROSS MULTIPLE TREATMENT APPROACHES AND MODALITIES. |
| Speaker: Dr. Elisabeth Crim |
Participants will gain understanding of the role of transference and counter-transference (based in the Intersubjective Approach to Psychoanalysis) as a key element in the psychotherapeutic treatment of individuals, parents, couples that can be applied across various theoretical orientations. The power of the role of the relationship of the client with therapist and therapist with client will be addressed and better understood as it affects forward movement and the commitment and/or resistance to treatment interventions and process. Cognitive behavioral techniques and other orientations or adjunctive therapies will be understood in the context of transference meanings for both the client and the attending therapist and, as relevant, the larger system of the treating team of professionals and family. Tools for identifying this core concept of psychotherapy will be discussed.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
1. Participants will learn the role of transference and counter-transference (based in the Intersubjective Approach to Psychoanalysis - Stolorow) as a key element in the psychotherapeutic treatment of individuals, parents, couples that effects forward movement, commitment and/or resistance to treatment.
2. Participants will gain knowledge toward applying transference and counter-transference concepts to the process of treatment (whether cognitive behavioral, systems, psychodynamic or other).
3. Participants will learn tools for identifying counter-transference within themselves as the clinician and transference within their patients.
